Owen L. Qi, MD

Dr. Owen Qi is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon. Originally from San Diego, CA, he studied at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating summa cum laude with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was excited to stay at Washington University to complete his medical degree at one of the top medical schools in the country.

With interest in understanding the variety of healthcare delivery organizations, he completed his Internship at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis before returning to Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital for his ophthalmology residency.

After graduating at the height of the COVID pandemic, he took the opportunity to fill a need at the Hennepin County Medical Center, a safety net hospital, and a busy level 1 trauma center serving the community of Minneapolis. While there, he enjoyed treating a diverse group of patients with complex social determinants while teaching ophthalmology residents from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Qi is excited to join Munster Eye Care to provide excellent care to the Northwest Indiana community. He believes in the importance of treating patients the same way he would treat his friends and family, thoroughly reviewing treatment options and involving them in the decision-making process. He is passionate about cataract surgery and provides customized surgical planning to give his patients great outcomes. He offers premium lens implants to reduce glasses dependence after cataract removal and is certified in the latest minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery techniques.

He enjoys learning new skills, personal fitness, long drives, and exploring food with friends and family locally and abroad in his free time.
